Narratives in the Life of Cory

When composing narratives, I struggle to keep the story compelling throughout. I feel as if a lack of depth may contribute to this. It can be easy to think of a plot, but holding the reader's attention is a skill that could definitely be improved. This is unlike one of my favorite songs, All Me by Drake, Big Sean, and 2 Chainz. The presence of multiple characters in this narrative gives the song depth, as their verses capture each of their prospective personalities and their opinions on subject matter. The reason this song is one of my favorites is because it always gets me hype. Whenever I hear it, no matter where I am, I feel the urge to start yelling the lyrics. Lyrically, the song makes the listener feel what the artists are trying to convey: authority, self-reliance, and luxury. If I can strike a chord within the audience of my narrative compositions like the artists in All Me do, it would most definitely lead to a more effective, interesting, and engaging piece. To achieve this, I will tailor my future compositions in accordance with the target audience’s interests and characteristics. I find studying my favorite narratives to be really helpful. Dissecting why they are successful and transferring that strategy into my own will help bolster my narrative writing skills.
